募集の背景、プロジェクトの説明
The future vision of the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials (IMRAM) is to pursue comprehensive, interdisciplinary solutions to the pressing social challenges facing humanity—such as energy, resources, environment, health, and food—based on the foundations of “materials” and “measurement.” Among them, breaking free from dependence on fossil resources is a critical energy challenge. Innovations are sought in chemistry-related fields, such as improving the efficiency of devices and processes for energy generation and storage, and developing technologies to convert biomass and waste plastics into fuel with a viewpoint toward the carbon cycle. Furthermore, complex challenges spanning both the energy and resource/environment sectors are emerging, such as the recycling of solar panels and storage batteries, which are expected to be discarded in large quantities in the near future. To address these challenges, research and development that transcends disciplinary boundaries is essential. Our institute has established a research field focused on energy conversion devices and processes. Our hallmark interdisciplinary research enables the design of unprecedented materials and processes and has the potential to fundamentally transform energy infrastructure. Potential research areas include the development of high-performance solar cells and storage batteries with low environmental impact; the creation of new technologies for the advanced utilization of hydrogen energy; the high-efficiency production of environmentally friendly fuels derived from biomass and waste plastics, along with the design of innovative catalysts for this purpose; and materials and process research that integrates these fields with computational science and data science. We are seeking talented individuals capable of advancing energy-related chemical research that contributes to solving energy challenges for a sustainable society.
