This specialized field focuses on land use planning—the foundation of urban planning—that encompasses a broad and comprehensive land use planning system covering not only urban areas but also rural regions and natural landscapes. In particular, candidates should have a track record of educational and research achievements involving the analysis and utilization of various spatial data related to spatial infrastructure, circulation facilities, and land-use units. They should be well-versed in sustainable land-use planning systems designed to address social challenges such as population decline, aging, and natural disasters. Preference will be given to candidates who have a history of collaborative research on the design of land-use planning systems with national and prefectural government agencies responsible for policy formulation that transcends the boundaries of individual municipalities.
