    [Hiring institution]
    The School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (SLAS) at Musashi University invites applications for a tenured, tenure-track, or fixed-term position in Economics, with a focus on Microeconomics and Applied Microeconomics. The successful candidate will play a central role in SLAS’s Parallel Degree Programme (PDP) in partnership with the University of London (UoL), particularly through teaching contributions to BSc Economics and BSc Economics and Management. We welcome applications from scholars with a strong research agenda and publication record and demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate courses in English.

    [Job details]
    Teaching and administrative responsibilities:

    1. Teaching undergraduate courses in the field of Economics and related areas (Faculty members are expected to teach five "koma" per semester, with one "koma" being a 105-minute class meeting per week.) The teaching load for this position includes:
    - Behavioral Economics (EC3019) or Industrial Economics (EC3099) (Courses taught in English)
    - Microeconomics (EC2066) or “Mathematics 1 (MT105a - Half course) and Statistics 1(ST104a - Half course)” (Courses taught in English)
    - Other undergraduate lectures and seminars (Courses taught in English or Japanese)
    - Candidate may also be asked to teach other specialized courses or seminars in the SLAS.
    2. Contributing to the administration and curriculum development of the SLAS.
    3. Duties pertaining to university entrance examinations and committees.
    4. Academic supervision and pastoral care of students. The final allocation of courses may be adjusted depending on the candidate’s expertise. For details, please refer to the following.

    Annual Salary : 9 million yen ~

    Remarks: Salary will be determined in consideration of academic background, teaching career, and work experience.
    Salary will be paid in accordance with the school corporation's salary regulations (based on the salary scales for national government officials).
    Dependents allowance, commuting allowance, housing allowance, and individual research allowance (200,000 yen paid once per academic year, taxable) will be provided.
    In addition to the individual research allowance, individual research expenses up to a maximum of 400,000 yen per academic year will be allocated to each faculty member.
    However, this may vary for those appointed mid- academic year, etc.

  • Associate Professor

    Annual Salary : 8 million yen ~

    Remarks: Salary will be determined in consideration of academic background, teaching career, and work experience.
    Salary will be paid in accordance with the school corporation's salary regulations (based on the salary scales for national government officials).
    Dependents allowance, commuting allowance, housing allowance, and individual research allowance (200,000 yen paid once per academic year, taxable) will be provided.

  • Lecturer level

(2) Note on tenure-track appointments at Musashi University
The initial tenure-track appointment is for a three-year period during which a one-time only decision about whether to confirm tenure will be made by the tenure committee. If the tenure-track appointee is eligible to take parental leave, in accordance with the relevant regulations for such leave, the period of appointment can be correspondingly extended. The decision on tenure will be made based on output in the areas of (1) research, (2) teaching, (3) university administration, and (4) other contributions to society, etc. Should tenure not be rewarded, employment will terminate with the end of the tenure-track appointment period. However, where it is deemed necessary, the period of tenure-track employment may be extended once, for one year.

(3) The mandatory retirement age at Musashi University is 65.
