Tokyo Tech is the top national university for science and technology in Japan with a history spanning more than 130 years. [Job description]
The Earth-Life Science Institute (ELSI) of the Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) is soliciting applications for two or three associated principal investigators (A-PIs) (specially-appointed associated professor or specially-appointed assistant professor) promoting interdisciplinary collaborations and pursuing researches on the origins of planetary systems, chemical evolution, systems chemistry and the origin of life, coevolution of Earth and its life, universal properties of Earth and planet systems, universal properties of life systems, and habitability beyond Earth.

We are now seeking exceptional candidates to strengthen ELSI's in-house collaborations among astronomy, Earth and planetary science, chemistry, and life science, and to reinforce collaborations with multiple PIs in ELSI. In addition, we seek candidates who will be central to institutional collaborations and may co-supervise graduate students with ELSI faculty members. Our institutional language is English; Japanese language skills are not required. An unprecedented level of support for researchers to live and thrive in Japan is provided by our talented staff. Qualifications

1) Candidates should hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent), have their own original research plans in the subject specified above, and an ability to promote collaborations with multiple Principal investigators (*1) in ELSI.
2) Candidates may co-supervise graduate students with ELSI faculty members (*1).
3) We seek candidates that have an international research network in a relevant subject and a strong commitment to the development and the strategic and operational management of the institute.

(*1: In particular, collaborations and co-supervision of students with Kosuke Fujishima, Hidenori Genda, John Hernlund, Shigeru Ida, Tomohiro Matsuura, Shawn McGlynn, Ryuhei Nakamura, Yasuhito Sekine, and Eric Smith are expected)

4. List of acquired external research grants, fellowships, or competitive funds. The type, project title, period of research, and budget should be provided for each item. Please specify applicant's contribution as a principal or cooperative investigator. In case where you act as co-investigator, please specify the total and allocated budgets.
5. Abridged list of major honors and awards, academic society activities, editorial activities, grant proposal review panels, other service-related activities, and committee activities.
6. List of up to five most important publications.
7. Outline of research achievements and current research objectives. Please limit the length to 3 pages of A4 or letter size.
8. Statement of research plans at ELSI. Please limit the length to 3 pages of A4 or letter size.
9. Outline of past and current teaching activities, list of classes taught, and list of advisees. Please specify the language used in classes. Please limit the length to 2 pages of A4 or letter size.
10. List of names and contact information of two references. One or two references should be from researchers based in institutions outside of Japan. The name, affiliation, postal address, telephone number, e-mail address, and their relationship to the applicant should be provided.
