[Job description]
The Earth-Life Science Institute (ELSI) of the Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) is soliciting applications for two Associate Principal Investigators (A-PIs) (specially-appointed associated professor) who will pursue interdisciplinary collaborations and research in topical areas ranging from Earth and planetary science to complex systems. We are specifically seeking scientists who study the formation, evolution, and diversity of interior-surface environments of bodies in the Solar System (including Earth) as well as those who carry out theoretical research to better understand the universal properties of evolvable systems. The successful candidates will play a central role in international collaborations and be willing to spend 2 years or more visiting partner institutions abroad. We are seeking exceptional candidates with the potential to strengthen ELSI's in-house collaborations with multiple principal investigators (PIs). In addition, we seek candidates who may co-supervise graduate students with ELSI faculty members. Our institutional language is English; Japanese language skills are not required. Please specify applicant's contribution as a principal or cooperative investigator. In case where you act as co-investigator, please specify the total and allocated budgets.
5. Abridged list of major honors and awards, academic society activities, editorial activities, grant proposal review panels, other service-related activities, and committee activities.
6. List of up to five most important publications.
7. Outline of research achievements and current research objectives. Please limit the length to 3 pages of A4 or letter size.
8. Statement of research plans at ELSI. Please limit the length to 3 pages of A4 or letter size, including a research plan during long-term dispatch to oversea institute(s).
9. Outline of past and current teaching activities, list of classes taught, and list of advisees. Please specify the language used in classes. Please limit the length to 2 pages of A4 or letter size.
10. List of names and contact information of two references. One or two references should be from researchers based in institutions outside of Japan. The name, affiliation, postal address, telephone number, e-mail address, and their relationship to the applicant should be provided.

[Selection details]
The selection committee will start reviewing the submitted materials on May 1st, 2023. Selected candidates will be interviewed and will be requested to give a public seminar on their research plans in English.
