Salary, research fund, duty hours and holidays are clearly and minutely stipulated by Doshisha University.
Teaching load is a minimum of four 90-minute classes per week. There is a possibility of being requested to teach more classes.

The Department of English at Doshisha University, located in Kyoto, has an opening for a full-time (tenured) faculty member, beginning in April, 2024.
Position:
Professor, Associate Professor or Assistant Professor depending on qualifications.
Academic Field:
Applied Linguistics or related areas (e.g., Second Language Acquisition, Bilingualism, TESOL)
Date of Appointment: April 1, 2024
Responsibilities:
1) Teaching courses on Applied Linguistics and English-language skill courses in the Department of English.
2) Teaching load: A minimum of four 90-minute classes per week.
3) Administrative responsibilities: Involvement in curriculum design and planning; coordination of classes; contributions to Doshisha's international exchange programs; participation in designated committees; invigilation and entrance examination duties; and publicity activities.

Application materials:
1) Curriculum vitae (rirekisho) and a list of academic publications (gyosekisho). Please note that there are no designated forms for these.
2) Two letters of recommendation.
3) One offprint/copy of each of three academic publications, with an English synopsis (about 500 words) of each publication.
4) Statement in English (about 1,000 words), explaining the reasons for applying, including personal philosophy/comments regarding teaching and research.
5) Photocopies of Bachelor's degree certificate, Master's degree certificate and Doctorate certificate.
Interview and lecture demonstration (to be held in September 2023): Applicants who pass the first screening will be invited to attend an interview and to give a lecture demonstration on the Imadegawa Campus at Doshisha University, Kyoto (or via Zoom if they reside outside of Japan when the interview takes place).
