Position: One Tenure-track Faculty Member: Associate Professor

Faculty section: Department of Advanced Analytical Science for Materials and Devices, Faculty of Engineering Sciences (FES), Kyushu University. All professors who belong to FES must commit themselves to educational duties at Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences (IGSES) and School of Engineering (SE).

Research field: The successful candidate will be one of the core members of an international laboratory project for advanced nanomaterials, nanocharacterization and nanodevices in collaboration between researchers at FES and those at Institute for Materials Chemistry and Engineering (IMCE), which was launched in 2020. The candidate is expected to have in-depth knowledge of design, fabrication/characterization of nanomaterials and/or nanoscale devices, and will be required to pursue innovative research using advanced methods of experimental, computational and/or data-driven materials sciences.

Educational activities: The successful candidate will be required to lecture at IGSES for graduate students and SE and KIKAN education for undergraduate students on the following topics: physics, chemistry, materials science, materials informatics, etc. The candidate will also be required to supervise both Japanese and non-Japanese students in the bachelor, masters and doctoral courses.

Regular full-time, A tenure-track position (fixed-term contract up to March 31, 2026). If the candidate passes an examination for a tenured position in the 4th year after employment, the candidate will be hired until retirement of 65.

Compensation

The annual salary system, which is introduced on 1st April 2020, will be applied. The annual salary is determined under the university's pay scale based on experience, etc.

Application documents: The following documents from (1) to (10) must be submitted. If submitting by mail, the documents must be sent as a set of printed copies along with a single PDF file that compiles the documents in order saved in a medium (CD, DVD, of USB memory stick). (1)Curriculum vitae: a recent photograph, contact information (e-mail, etc.), educational records, professional records, and qualifications must be included.
(2)URL of the applicant's page of Google Scholar, total citation number, h-index, and i10-index.
(3)List of works: the applicant's research activities must be classified into the following seven categories:
i)Books;
ii)Peer-reviewed first- or corresponding-author journal papers;
iii)Peer-reviewed non-first- and corresponding-author author journal papers;
iv)Conference proceedings;
v)Presentations at conferences, symposiums, seminars, etc.;
vi)Patents;
vii)Others.
As for ii) and iii), the following information must be shown: all the authors' names listed in the order as printed in the article; article title; journal name; volume; pages; publication year; and Impact factor of the journal.
(4)Activities at academic societies and social places: memberships, awards, and other significant activities must be listed.
(5)List of obtained funds: JSPS/MEXT KAKENHI and other funds of joint research and contract research, in which the applicant's role, a principal investigator or a collaborative investigator, must be listed.
(6)Statement of research experience and achievement no more than 3 pages of A4 paper in length including figures/tables.
(7)Statement of future research plan no more than 3 pages of A4 paper in length including figures/tables.
(8)Statement of motivation for the application to this tenure track position and policy for education and research no more than one and a half pages of A4 paper in length including figures/tables.
(9)Reprints of up to five representative papers. These representative papers should be marked in (3) List of works.
(10)Two reference persons: name, title, affiliation, and contact information (phone and e-mail) must be shown. At least one of the reference persons is preferred to be a full-time researcher at a research and/or educational institution located in a country other than that in which the institution employing the applicant is located.
