[Explanation of institution]
The Institute for Chemical Reaction Design and Discovery (ICReDD), Hokkaido University, as a global research center based on the “World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI),"constructs an international research environment which gathers world-leading researchers and establishes a research environment that integrates computational, information and experimental sciences, in order to establish a new academic field “Chemical Reaction Design and Discovery", to provide substantial knowledge on chemical reactions that efficiently develop chemical reactions and materials for the future necessity, and to sustainably cultivate human resources engaged in the field of “Chemical Reaction Design and Discovery".

We are inviting applications for the position of Postdoctoral Fellow (Mita group), Institute for Chemical Reaction Design and Discovery, Hokkaido University as follows.

[Research Field]
Synthetic organic chemistry (development of new chemical reactions, designing catalysts)

[Job Description]
In October 2019, Prof. Satoshi Maeda (Director of Institute for Chemical Reaction Design and Discovery (WPI-ICReDD), Hokkaido University) launched a new research project entitled “Artificial Intelligence in Chemical Reaction Design and Discovery" under a commitment by JST ERATO.
In the project, we will create “Artificial Intelligence in Chemical Reaction Design and Discovery" that predicts new chemical reactions by combining technologies of automated reaction path search by Artificial Force Induced Reaction (AFIR) and combinatorial optimization.
The successful candidate will join the group of organic chemistry (Tsuyoshi Mita, Specially Appointed Associate Professor in ICReDD) to propose ideas of new chemical reactions using computational science and information science methods and experimentally validate reaction paths predicted by “Artificial Intelligence in Chemical Reaction Design and Discovery". Deep knowledges and high experimental skills for organic chemistry (transition-metal-catalyzed transformation etc.) are required.
In addition, it is desirable to have research experience in computational chemistry. Due to the regulation of ERATO, the successful candidate can conduct other research activities with up to 20% of the whole research work.
