Job description

  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

    Ever since it’s foundation in 1976, Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) has been strongly pursuing Industry-Academia collaboration and achieving a very high reputation in advanced researches. In 2007, NUT was adopted in “Improvement of research environment for young researchers” project under the Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Japan (MEXT). Since then, NUT accepted 26 young researchers at tenure-track positions. In order to continue and extend this program, NUT invites a tenure-track Associate professor/Lecturer who can promote Industry-Academia collaboration in the area mentioned below.
    An appointee will be provided with an independent laboratory, and start-up and research funds including salaries for supporting staffs (postdoctoral fellows and research assistants) if necessary. An appointee will be asked to undertake the minimum academic duties necessary for his or her academic training.
    The promotion to a tenured position will be made through reviews in the middle or at the end of the period of appointment. One who has achieved promising research will be promoted to a tenured position.

    Associate Professor: approx. 5.6~7.7 million yen

    system for specialized work is not applied, the employee will work from 8:30 to 17:15 five days a week (break 12:00 to
    13:00), and may be ordered to work overtime.

  • Supplementary explanation of compensation

    1. Salary
    An annual salary system is applied to tenure-tracking employees, and the allowance will determine based on one's
    experiences, skills and accomplishments.

    2. Startup and research budgets
    An appointee will be supported up to 10 million yen for startup and running costs in the first year, and 5 million yen for
    running costs in the second year. Thereafter, 2 million yen per year will be provided to cover running costs during tenuretrack
    employment period. Salaries for a postdoctoral fellow and/or a research assistant are included in the above
    budgets.

    3. Duration of employment
    The last day of employment will be March 31, 2031.

    4. Promotion to a tenured position
    A tenure-track appointee will be evaluated in the third year and the fifth year of the employment. One who has made
    promising research in one's field will be promoted to a tenured position.
