    [Job Description] Chiba University invites applications for a Researcher to work on the project “Reducing Climate Projection Uncertainty with Data Assimilation as Emergent Constraints” (funded by the Environmental Research and Technology Development Fund), starting in 2025.

    Job Description:
    The project aims to advance the methodology of Emergent Constraints for reducing climate projection uncertainty by applying data assimilation techniques. Depending on the applicant’s interests, the research may focus on one or more of the following themes:
    •Development of methodologies for reducing climate projection uncertainty using Emergent Constraints with data assimilation
    •Impact assessment of novel atmospheric observations and optimization of observation networks
    •Development of cloud-resolving models incorporating water isotopes
    •Drone-based observations of cloud and precipitation processes
    •Estimation of climate model parameters using water isotope information

Wages

  • Annual Salary : 5 million yen ~ 6 million yen

    Salary will follow university regulations and depend on years of experience. For a researcher in the first year after obtaining a Ph.D., the annual salary is expected to be around 5.28 million JPY. Salary increases may be possible depending on achievements.

    Break time :12:00-13:00

    Holidays : Holidays: Saturdays, Sundays, National holidays, and year-end and New Year holidays.

Qualifications

  • Education and Degree Requirements

    Ph.D. / Doctor

    Applicants must hold (or be expected to obtain shortly) a Ph.D. in Atmospheric/Hydrospheric Sciences, Hydraulic Engineering, or a related field.

  • Work experience

    Applicants should have research achievements in one of the following areas: weather forecasting, climate change projection, atmospheric/climate modeling, or data assimilation. However, candidates without prior experience in these areas will also be considered if they demonstrate strong interest and motivation.
