Education and Degree Requirements
Ph.D. / Doctor
1. Holding or being expected to hold a Ph.D. or doctoral degree.
2. Having expertise in one or more of the following fields: optics, informatics, and life science.
3. Being highly motivated to engage in the development of optics–informatics fusion technologies that integrate optical techniques such as fluorescence microscopy and optogenetics with information technologies including AI, as well as in applying these technologies to biological samples such as model organisms (e.g., mice, C. elegans) and living cells. (However, prior experience in these research areas is not required.)
4. Being able to carry out research in collaboration with researchers within and outside the research group.
Work experience
For example, we assume, but do not require, that candidates have experience in the following types of research.
- Research in the field of optics, such as optical microscopy, spectroscopy, and computational imaging.
- The development of data analysis methods for biological images, neural activity data, etc.
- Research using advanced optical imaging techniques (e.g., fluorescence microscopy) in any field of life science such as neuroscience, developmental biology, and cell biology.
