Job description

  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

    Existing departments
    Course of Agricultural and Biological Chemistry, Degree program in Earth, Environmental and Life Science, Graduate School of Environmental, Life, Natural Science and Technology.
    The Division of Bioactive Chemistry conducts educational and research activities in collaboration with the endowed course "Microbial Industry". Established in 2022 through corporate donations, the endowed course "Microbial Industry" promotes educational and research initiatives focused on topics that contribute to industrialization overviewing fermentation technology using microorganisms.
    We are looking for candidates with the knowledge and experience in agricultural chemistry.

    【Area of Expertise】
    Agricultural Chemistry, Chemistry of Bioactive Compounds
    【Description of Job】
    (1) Research and education: In addition to research in the fields of natural product chemistry and bioorganic chemistry, and furthermore, research and education in collaboration with relevant staffs to further develop microbial manufacturing in the endowed course "Microbial Industry" by analyzing fermentation and brewing processes at the compound level from the perspectives of natural product chemistry and bioorganic chemistry.
    (2) Education: Experimental practices such as "Laboratory Agrochemical Bioscience 1, 2, 3 (shared)", "Laboratory Chemical Analysis (shared)", and other experimental practice, and guidance assistance on graduation thesis research, and guidance assistance on master's and doctoral students at the graduate school.
    (3) Administration: Organizational Management at Okayama University

Wages

  • Annual Salary : 4 million yen ~ 7 million yen

    Basic annual salary and Performance-based annual salary : Assistant Professor 4,702,000-6.708,000yen
    An annual salary system is applied.
    The amount of annual salary is determined in consideration of the person’s educational background, work experience, etc. according to the Okayama University annual salary Regulations.
    The percentage of annual performance pay depends on the length of service within six months prior to the base date (June 1 and December 1) , and the performance rate varies depending on the results of the evaluation.
    As allowances, commuting allowance, support allowance, housing allowance, adjustment allowance, etc. will be paid separately to the applicable employees.

Working hours

  • Working hours :08:30-17:30

    Holidays : Saturdays and Sundays, national holidays, and December 29 to January 3 (Article 42, paragraph 2 of the Personnel Work Rules)

    Overtime and other explanations : If the employee agrees to the application of the discretionary work system for specialized work, working hours will be deemed as 7 hours and 45 minutes per day. Overtime work is not required in principle. Day-off work may be required. (Articles 41 and 42 of the Personnel Work Rules)

    ・Have obtained a doctoral degree or are expected to obtain it by the time of employment.
    ・Have a proven track record in the fields of natural product chemistry and bioorganic chemistry, and have a passion for engaging also in fermentation and brewing processes in the endowed course "Microbial Industry".
    ・Have sufficient ability and enthusiasm for undergraduate and graduate education in Japanese and English, as well as management and administration.
    ・ If you are a foreign national, you must have Japanese proficiency that allows you to carry out the work including experimental practices and supporting research guidance.

    5 years from the day of arrival at the new post
    Tenure screening.
