Job description

  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

    The Environmental Hydrology Group in the Course of Rural and Environmental Sciences, Graduate School of Environmental, Life, Natural Science and Technology, Okayama University, conducts research aimed at the appropriate utilization and management of water resources. Our research topics include the elucidation of basin-scale hydrological processes, assessment of the impacts of human activities, real-time flood/drought runoff forecasting, and statistical analysis of increasingly frequent extreme precipitation events. In particular, the group seeks to develop new hydrological statistical analysis methods that explicitly account for uncertainty and variability.
    The group is seeking highly qualified individuals with advanced knowledge and expertise in hydrological statistical analysis, data-driven modeling, and multi-scale watershed management.
    Additionally, the successful applicant is expected to conduct education and research supervision or support for students in both Japanese and English.

    Basic annual salary and Performance-based annual salary : Assistant Professor 5,556,000-6,498,000yen, *Only for a person with PhD

    The percentage of annual performance pay depends on the length of service within six months prior to the base date (June 1 and December 1), and the performance rate varies depending on the results of the evaluation.

Working hours

  • Working hours :08:30-17:30

    Holidays : Saturdays and Sundays, national holidays, and December 29 to January 3 (Article 42, paragraph 2 of the Personnel Work Rules)

    Overtime and other explanations : If the employee agrees to the application of the discretionary work system for specialized work, working hours will be deemed as 7 hours and 45 minutes per day. Overtime work is not required in principle. Day-off work may be required. (Articles 41 and 42 of the Personnel Work Rules)

    (2) High enthusiasm and ability for education and research, and proactive motivation in international exchange and industry-academia collaboration activities
    (3) A good command of English for lectures, education, and research, and for international education to graduate students

    5 years, tenure screening is conducted six months before the expiration date. If the screening results meet the attached evaluation criteria, the person will be hired as an academic staff member (until the retirement age) from the day after the tenure track expiration date.
