Job description

  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

    The Information Security Engineering Division, Okayama University conducts education and research on next-generation cryptographic technologies (post-quantum cryptography, homomorphic encryption, etc.) based on cryptographic mathematics, as well as AI security, IoT security, secure data utilization, and practical cybersecurity.

    As a core division of the J-PEAKS [Okayama University Vision 2050] IT strengthening initiative, we maintain one of Japan's leading integrated educational and research frameworks spanning from cryptographic theory to real-world implementation.

    We welcome applications from candidates with a primary background in information security or cryptography, as well as those from related fields such as information engineering, communication engineering, electrical/electronic engineering, systems engineering, and IoT. We are seeking a young researcher (Assistant Professor) who can contribute fresh perspectives and broad expertise to advance this division.

    (1)Education and research at the Graduate School of Environmental, Life, Natural Science and Technology: The successful applicant is expected to conduct his/her own research and assist supervision of graduate students in both master's and doctoral courses in their research.
    (2)Education at School of Engineering (Network Engineering Track): The successful applicant is expected to teach laboratory and exercise courses related to information, electrical and communication, and security engineering, and assist supervision of undergraduate students in their research.

Wages

  • Annual Salary : 5 million yen ~ 7 million yen

    Basic annual salary and Performance-based annual salary : Assistant Professor 5,802,000-6,708,000yen, *Only for a person with PhD
    Salary: An annual salary system is applied. The amount of annual salary is determined in consideration of the person’s educational background, work experience, etc. according to the Okayama University annual salary Regulations.
    The percentage of annual performance pay depends on the length of service within six months prior to the base date (June 1 and December 1), and the performance rate varies depending on the results of the evaluation.
    As allowances, commuting allowance, support allowance, housing allowance, adjustment allowance, etc. will be paid separately to the applicable employees.

Working hours

  • Working hours :08:30-17:30

    Holidays : Saturdays and Sundays, national holidays, and December 29 to January 3 (Article 42, paragraph 2 of the Personnel Work Rules)

    Overtime and other explanations : If the employee agrees to the application of the discretionary work system for specialized work, working hours will be deemed as 7 hours and 45 minutes per day. Overtime work is not required in principle. Day-off work may be required. (Articles 41 and 42 of the Personnel Work Rules)

    (1) Holding (or expected to hold) a Ph.D. degree in a related field
    (2) Excellent research accomplishments in information security (cryptography, AI security, cybersecurity, etc.) or related fields
    (3) High motivation and ability for education, and research and willingness to actively engage in international exchange and industry-academia collaboration
    (4) A good command of English and Japanese

    5 years, Tenure screening is conducted six months before the expiration date. If the screening results meet the tenure evaluation criteria, the person will be hired as an academic staff member (without a fixed term) from the day after the tenure-track period expires.
