  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

    Full-time faculty position in the Department of English in the Faculty of Foreign Studies

  • Work content and job description

    1. Conducting research in the field of Intercultural communication or related area, and teaching courses in the field in English or Japanese.
    2. Teaching and coordinating departmental and faculty-wide lecture courses in their field of specialization, “English Research Seminar,” and other English communication classes.
    3. Designing, implementing, and teaching COIL-type classes, PBL classes, “Overseas Studies in English,” and other related classes in the faculty.
    4. Performing various instructional and administrative duties in Japanese as requested by the dean of the faculty.

    We look forward to receiving applications from educators who are willing to incorporate social engagement activities into educational practices, and are able to teach courses and supervise students in the Faculty of Foreign Studies graduate school program.

    Ph.D. / Doctor

    Ph.D. or an equivalent level of academic research accomplishment in their field of specialization.

  • Work experience

    Three or more years of experience teaching at university.

  • Description

    We are seeking a person who, in addition to fulfilling the required qualifications, including educational degrees, academic accomplishments, and experience as specified above and below, has social common sense and an understanding of the university’s founding principles.
    (1)English as a first language or an equivalent level of English proficiency. Sufficient Japanese proficiency to handle administrative functions and duties.
    (2)Capable of relocating to Kyoto City or a nearby area.

    (1) A copy of three representative academic publications (excluding dissertations) along with their abstracts. The abstracts should be approximately 400 characters in Japanese or 300 words in English. There is no specification of the layout, but the document should be in A4 format. In case you have co-authored or collaborated on research papers, please include a copy of the table of contents and indicate your contribution. You may be requested to submit all of your publications, if necessary.
    (2)Submit a statement of 1,500 characters in Japanese or 1,000 words in English outlining your educational and research goals should you be selected for this position. There is no specification of the layout, but the document should be in A4 format.
    (3)A copy of the diploma of your most advanced degree. If your doctoral dissertation is under examination or if you have completed doctoral coursework but have no dissertation, please submit a copy of your master’s degree diploma.
    (4)Two letters of recommendations. (Each letter must include the recommender’s name with his/her signature, academic status, affiliation, contact details and a statement of their relationship to the applicant. The letters can be in any format. The letters must be sealed by the recommenders.)
