業務内容

  • 募集の背景、プロジェクトの説明

The Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF), supported by the U.S. and Japanese governments, conducts research and studies for peaceful purposes on the medical effects of radiation and associated diseases in humans and contributes to the maintenance of the health and welfare of atomic bomb survivors and to the enhancement of the health and welfare of all humankind. The Department of Molecular Biosciences (MBS) studies radiation-related diseases (cancer and non-cancer) and genetic effects of radiation exposure using biosamples donated by atomic bomb survivors. In particular, the Immunology Laboratory studies the effects of radiation exposure on the hematoimmune system and the underlying mechanisms of associated disease development, focusing on clonal hematopoiesis. We are recruiting a junior or mid-career researcher (equivalent to an assistant professor or associate professor) to perform genomic, cell function, and clonal structure analyses in the hematopoietic system, primarily using mice. We welcome young researchers who have no experience in hematopoietic cell genome analysis or animal experiments, but are willing to take on new research challenges.

  • 仕事内容・職務内容

You will study the medical and biological effects of radiation at the cellular-molecular level in collaboration with the RERF researchers specialized in medicine, epidemiology, or statistics, as well as experts from Japanese and international research institutions. Special emphasis will be placed on animal model studies of clonal hematopoiesis, which is hypothesized to be involved in the development of diseases such as hematopoietic malignancies and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in atomic bomb survivors. This will include the study of clonal hematopoiesis, associated disorders in the hematoimmune system, and radiobiological mechanisms of disease development. Specifically, you will analyze blood and disease site tissue samples mainly from irradiated mice at the cellular-molecular level using flow cytometry and next-generation DNA sequencing technology, etc., to study the mechanisms of developing clonal hematopoiesis attributable to radiation exposure and the association with hematopoietic tumors and cardiovascular disease in atomic bomb survivors.
