Job description

  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

University of Hyogo established the Graduate School of Information Science in 2021, with a foundation in data science and computational science. The Graduate School conducts research and education in four fields: data science, computational science, health and medicine, and information security, as well as interdisciplinary and integrated fields that bridge information science with social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering.
A distinguishing feature of the Graduate School is the presence of researchers with outstanding research achievements on a global scale. In addition, the Graduate School offers a unique educational and research environment for students, with joint research with the neighboring RIKEN and research and academic exchanges through the use of the supercomputer “Fugaku”. Furthermore, the Graduate School has excellent researchers in both education and research in the fields of mathematical optimization and algorithms. The undergraduate School of Social Information Science, which is affiliated with the Graduate School, conducts PBL (problem-based learning) exercises using real data in collaboration with companies and other organizations. Another feature is the promotion of technical collaboration and reskilling education with companies at Center for Mathematical Optimization and Data Science (tentative name).

  • Work content and job description

This open recruitment seeks individuals who can practice cutting-edge research and education in the field of data and computational science, with a broad perspective on information science, computational science in a broad sense, and interdisciplinary and integrated fields, including social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering, which have recently deepened their ties with information science.
In research, we will evaluate attempts to conduct and build research and collaborations that contribute to the development of the Graduate School not only domestically but also from an international perspective, including, for example, strengthening joint research and systems with RIKEN, technical collaboration with companies in the fields of mathematical optimization and algorithms, and building interdisciplinary fields utilizing various social data in a broad sense. In education, in addition to graduate education focusing on the field of data and computational science, we also ask that the candidate be involved in undergraduate education, including PBL exercises using real data at the undergraduate School of Social Information Science as described above. We also expect the candidate to make social contributions through collaboration with companies and other research organizations, and to actively participate in university management.
