Job description

  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

    Kyushu University is seeking an experienced individual with expertise in teaching and research for appointment as an Associate Professor (tenure track) in the Laboratory of Regulation in Metabolism and Behavior, Division of Animal and Marine Biosciences, Department of Bioresource Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture.

    The Laboratory of Regulation in Metabolism and Behavior is engaged in education and research focusing on sustainable and stable supply of animal bioresources through appropriate care and rearing management, based on nutritional physiology, animal welfare-related sciences, and scientific basis for application of physiological responses under rearing environment.

    [Job description]
    Candidates are expected to have responsibility to have high expertise in the following broad education and research fields:
    1)Integrative understanding of the mechanisms underlying how organisms respond to various environmental conditions, by using theoretical methods including mathematical models of regulatory systems that generate biological rhythms.
    2)Comprehensive elucidation of the physiological and behavioral characteristics of animals and their cellular and molecular mechanisms through integration of biology and data science.
    3)Interdisciplinary and integrated research including the application and utilization of biological rhythms in health sciences.

    *Educational Duties
    The successful candidate will be expected to teach the following subjects and supervise research activities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in Japanese or English. Most of the courses are given by multiple professors.

    Ph.D. / Doctor

    (1) Ph.D. degree.
    (2) An outstanding research record in the above-mentioned scientific fields 1)–3).
    (3) Ability to work with enthusiasm for student education and research guidance as a supervisor at undergraduate and graduate schools.

    Tenure-Track Period and Examinations:
    This tenure-track position is for a maximum five-year appointment (from the date of appointment until March 31, 2029) with mid-term (3rd year) and final (5th year) examinations according to the specified criteria. The successful candidate who fulfills the criteria will be employed as a permanent Associate Professor. If outstanding results are achieved, promotion to a permanent Professor will be considered. During the tenure-track period, more than 70% of time can be used for research. Annual research and start-up expenses will be allocated.
