We are seeking a motivated and talented individual to join Evolutionary and Synthetic Biology Unit, OIST Japan from September 2024. The successful candidate will work within the scope of our projects in discoveries in fungal genomes focusing on biomass degradation for renewable energy, collaborating with international teams. The position is for two years with the salary range of 4.5 to 5.9 million yen per year (depending on your experience). The housing allowance is offered in addition to the salary. Our institute is on a beautiful subtropical island, Okinawa in Japan. OIST. -
仕事内容・職務内容
# Key Responsibilities
Conduct independent research within the scope of ongoing research projects involving bench and computational work.
Collaborate with team members and contribute to international collaborations.
Lead and manage research projects including supervising students as needed.
Write scientific papers and reports. Present research findings at scientific events. -

Ph.D. / Doctor
# Requirements
Ph.D. in microbiology, fungal ecology and evolution, plant-microbe interactions or a related discipline.
Experience in analyzing NGS data (Illumina, PacBio, Nanopore), extracting barcodes from NGS data and applying error correction methods, comparative genomics, statistical analyses, and programming languages (R, Python). Skills in designing and analyzing barcoded lineage tracing experiments are a bonus.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
A track record of peer-reviewed publications.
The ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.
