Osaka City University, which had been established by the Osaka Municipal Government, and Osaka Prefecture University, which had been established by the Osaka Prefectural Government, merged in 2022 to form Osaka Metropolitan University (OMU). Osaka City University started out as the Osaka Commercial Training Institute, and Osaka Prefecture University as a training school in veterinary science. The histories of both universities date back around 140 years, and their development tracked that of the major city of Osaka as the “City of Water,” a strategic transportation hub, while the city itself has developed alongside these two universities. While covering educational fields as diverse as commerce, agriculture, engineering, and medicine, among others, both universities have utilized their respective geographical advantages to contribute to the development of the spiritual culture required by residents of Osaka as a major city as well as the vitalization of its industry and economy, through the organic fusion of theory and practice.

Content of job information (tentative)
[Education]
• Offer lectures at Department of Geosciences, School of Science and Graduate School of Science in core educational subjects and specialized topics at undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Research guidance for undergraduate and graduate students (Master and Doctoral courses).
*Also responsible for providing corresponding education to any students of Osaka City University or Osaka Prefectural University if enrolled.
[Research]
Data acquisition and analysis in the field of geoscience and research related to application of spatial information science, especially in urban disaster prevention (e.g., spatiotemporal analysis, machine learning, analysis of rock’s physical properties and crustal stress that related to earthquake).
[Other than above]
• Services related to university administration
• Services related to international exchange
• Assignments related to university administration
• Contributions to the local community

Annual Salary : 6 million yen ~

Working hours :09:00-17:30
Holidays : Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, December 29th to January 3rd, however, due to university events, etc., the dates may be changed to another day of the week.
Overtime and other explanations : Overtime and other explanations : If you agree to the application of the professional work type discretionary labor system, you will be deemed to have worked 7 hours and 45 minutes per day.

• Sufficient competence in education in Geosciences to be able to teach graduate and undergraduate courses and to supervise students in English
• High level of English language skills is essential
• Applicants should hold a PhD degree
• Applicants must be able to take charge of lecture courses at undergraduate and graduate schools
• Applicants must be able to provide research guidance to undergraduate and graduate students (Master and Doctoral students)
• Applicants must conduct research in related fields in collaboration with laboratories of the Department of Geosciences and should be expected to produce satisfactory results.
• Able and enthusiastic to carry out university administration and management-related duties
