Osaka City University, which had been established by the Osaka Municipal Government, and Osaka Prefecture University, which had been established by the Osaka Prefectural Government, merged in 2022 to form Osaka Metropolitan University (OMU). Osaka City University started out as the Osaka Commercial Training Institute, and Osaka Prefecture University as a training school in veterinary science. The histories of both universities date back around 140 years, and their development tracked that of the major city of Osaka as the “City of Water,” a strategic transportation hub, while the city itself has developed alongside these two universities. While covering educational fields as diverse as commerce, agriculture, engineering, and medicine, among others, both universities have utilized their respective geographical advantages to contribute to the development of the spiritual culture required by residents of Osaka as a major city as well as the vitalization of its industry and economy, through the organic fusion of theory and practice.

・Provide career advice and guidance for students.
・Supervise student research projects and provide guidance on thesis writing.
・Teaching specialized and core subjects at both graduate and undergraduate levels within faculties and organizations.
・Responsibilities include teaching and mentoring students from Osaka City University and Osaka Prefecture University while they are enrolled (Note: Osaka Metropolitan University recently formed from the merger of Osaka City University and Osaka Prefecture University).
[Research]
The successful applicant will join one of the research groups in the Department of Physics at OMU. Tight collaboration with the affiliated research group is required for the successful applicant. For this reason, advance contact with one of the research groups is mandatory to be considered for the position.
[Other than above]
-Under the direction of the coordinator, there will be some miscellaneous tasks related to the invitation of short-term research fellows (mainly schedule coordination and support during their stay).
-Participate in committees within the faculty and graduate school.
-Perform administrative duties related to university operations.
-Contribute to the local community.

- Sufficient competence in education in Physics to be able to teach core graduate and undergraduate courses and to supervise students in English. Experience in teaching and supervising students in English at educational and research institutions outside of Japan is highly valued.

- Must be able to develop collaborative relationships both inside and outside the organization and provide strategic leadership for the Center's development.

This position will be applied as a faculty member working at Osaka Metropolitan University established by University Public Corporation Osaka.
Based on the philosophy of ensuring diversity and internationalization, Osaka Metropolitan University actively recruits female faculty members and foreign faculty members if their fields of specialization match and they are recognized to have equivalent educational and research achievements.
The interview and presentation will be conducted in English.
The International Research and Education Center of the Graduate School of Science was launched in April 2024. IREC mainly consists of foreign faculty members and visiting professors who collaborate with faculty members of the Graduate School of Science to further develop research and education in science at OMU. Members of IREC provide classes and seminars in English. They also conduct collaborative research with scientists from foreign and domestic universities. Graduate and undergraduate students can conduct research under the guidance of IREC faculty members.
