  Established in 1982, IUJ is a private graduate school in Minami Uonuma City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. It is Japan’s first graduate school to offer its entire curriculum in English. Our student body is highly diverse, representing a wide range of nationalities as well as professional and academic backgrounds, with many students having served as public officials before joining our school.

  The International Relations Program (IRP) at the Graduate School of International Relations (GSIR) of the International University of Japan (IUJ) offers Master’s and PhD degrees in International Relations and a Master’s degree in Political Science. The IRP currently seeks applications for a tenure-track position (Assistant Professor/Associate Professor level) to begin September 2025.
  
  Prospective candidates are expected to:
  •have a doctorate degree in Political Science or a relevant field by the time of the appointment
  •be able to teach graduate-level courses in the field of Political Economy and/or Political Institutions and Governance
  •regional focus on African countries is preferred
  •English fluency is required; Japanese proficiency is preferred but not necessary
  
  The successful candidate will teach four eight-week-long courses in the Master’s program per academic year, distributed across the three terms (fall, winter, and spring). In addition, the candidate will supervise graduate research projects (master’s thesis or research reports) and serve on the PhD supervisory committee throughout an academic year once eligible. One overseas business trip per academic year may be required.
