募集の背景、プロジェクトの説明
TUJ is looking for part-time faculty members who can teach English as a Foreign Language (EFL/ESL/TESOL) and English college composition writing courses.
The Bridge Program is a 3-tiered entry-level university program for conditionally accepted undergraduate students who need additional English language support and skill-building before matriculation. At our new Kyoto location, we are offering Bridge 3 (the highest level) starting from 2025 Summer.
仕事内容・職務内容
The syllabi for these courses will be set in terms of format, learning outcomes, course objectives, and types of assignments. However, course calendars and specific assignments or lesson plans will not be provided in full; instructors are responsible for the majority of their own course preparation in conversation with the program’s Director.
We are looking for 2 distinct instructors for the following courses:
TUJBP0305 – Skills Lab (Grammar/Oral Communication/Reading). 3 units, 4.5 teaching hours per week (Mondays and Wednesdays, 08:45-11:00)
This is an English language learning course focusing on three major skill areas: grammatical accuracy, oral communication fluency, and reading comprehension and strategies. Instructors will use a course textbook and will supplement with their own unique activities and pedagogical approaches in a small class. Successful applicants for this position will have higher education degrees in English, TESOL, linguistics, or a related field.
TUJBP0403 – Writing Lab. 4 units, 6 teaching hours per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:15-14:15)
This course's goal is to learn about and write argumentatively in the American college academic essay form. Students will engage in the composing process of 3 essays, which involves planning, drafting, and revising. The writing in this course will require students to summarize and synthesize ideas from different sources in order to produce essays with a high degree of academic tone and style. Success in this course will be assessed by engagement with the drafting process and improvements in writing during the term.
These positions are part-time for the semester, with the possibility to continue teaching in the future. Successful applicants will teach one or two courses per semester.
