募集の背景、プロジェクトの説明

Kyushu University is recruiting a postdoctoral research fellow to examing the geoeconomics, geopolitics, and local impacts of Taiwanese semiconductor investment in Japan. This new project is directed by Institute for Advanced Study Associate Professor and Inamori Frontier Program Fellow Ian Rowen. The project will explore how Japan’s industry, government, and higher education actors are preparing for and promoting growth of the local semiconductor industry, its effects on area communities, and the broader ramifications for relations between Japan, Taiwan and beyond.

仕事内容・職務内容

The job will include research project design and administration, writing grant applications, and conducting fieldwork, including interviews and site visits. The fieldwork will largely take place in Kyushu, Japan, with the possibility of further research travel to other parts of Japan, Taiwan, and the US. Therefore, the applicant ideally already has experience in grant writing and project administration within Japan, as well as participation in international projects. The fellow will gain experience in co-authoring and possibly single authoring journal articles, grant applications, international conference participation, and other research outputs. Time permitting, the fellow will also have ample opportunity to pursue their own research agenda, with the support of the PI and Kyushu University.

Annual Salary : 4 million yen ~ 5 million yen

Maximum of 5million yen.
(It will be determined based on research history, educational background, etc.) ）

勤務時間

Working hours :08:30-17:15

Break time :12:00-13:00

Holidays : Saturday, Sunday, National holidays, year-end and new year holidays (Dec.29-Jan.3), Annual paid leaves available

Overtime and other explanations : Discretionary Labor System (Deemed working hours: 7.75 hours/day)

応募に必要な学歴・学位

Ph.D. / Doctor

The successful applicant should hold a PhD or be near completion in a social science field, preferably geography, sociology, anthropology, politics, or economics.
They must be fluent in Japanese and English, and proficient in Mandarin Chinese.
業務における経験

The applicant should have fieldwork experience, including but not limited to conducting interviews, focus groups, content analysis, and ethnography, if possible. The applicant ideally also has experience in grant writing and project administration within Japan.
