Job description
Background of the recruitment and description of the project
We are soliciting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to engage in the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science KAKENHI project "Understanding the transition process of slow-to-fast earthquakes: an experimental approach using a hydrothermal shearing apparatus (FY2023-2026, PI: Takehiro Hirose)”.
Work content and job description
Slow earthquakes observed prior to the occurrence of a large earthquake have become indispensable for the preliminary detection of such large earthquakes. However, the interplay between slow and fast earthquakes remains unclear. The successful candidate will conduct geomaterials-based laboratory experiments and interpret the results to provide a better understanding of the processes involved in the transition from slow to fast earthquakes.
The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following tasks:
(1) Research earthquake and faulting mechanics from a material sciences perspective using technology available at the institute.
(2) Actively contribute to the development of experimental methods for the research described in (1).
(3) Construct a model of earthquake generation processes based on experimental results obtained through collaboration with other researchers in various fields.
Wages
Annual Salary : 4 million yen ~ 6 million yen
Annual salary (paid in 1/12 equal monthly payments)
JPY 4,400,000-5,600,000
*Salary will be competitive, based on the academic qualifications and demonstrated research skills of the candidate.
