  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

    [Research Field]
    RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing (RQC) aims to study quantum information theory, develop techniques for quantum control and measurement, build quantum computing hardware and software, and explore novel quantum technologies. We promote the progress of quantum information science and contribute to society through the application of quantum technologies.

    We develop superconducting quantum circuits for quantum information processing. Thus, we are hiring a technical staff who has experience and expertise in nanotechnology and device fabrication in a clean room.

  • Work content and job description

    The successful applicant will work on photolithography, electron-beam lithography, dry etching, e-gun evaporation, dicing, etc., mainly in the clean room. Sample inspections using an SEM, an AFM, and an optical microscope, device characterizations using a prober, and maintenance of the clean room and the instruments, are also a part of the job.

Wages

  • Annual Salary : 2 million yen ~

    Salary will be an annual salary based on experience, ability, and performance, and will consist of a base salary and a variable salary. The variable salary will be determined each fiscal year based on experience, ability, and performance. The monthly base salary is 212,000 JPY to 300,000 JPY as of April 1, 2024. The monthly base salary and variable salary are subject to change due to amendments to RIKEN regulations.

    Discretionary work, commuting and housing allowances will be provided. Social insurance will be applied.

    The approximate amount of annual salary at the time of employment:
    The monthly salary including discretionary work allowance at the time of employment will be 364,170 JPY or more.

Working hours

  • Working hours :09:00-17:20

    Break time :12:00-12:50

    Holidays : Days off include public holidays, New Year's holidays (Dec. 29 - Jan 3), and RIKEN Foundation Day.
    Paid leave includes annual paid leave (up to 20 days depending on the month of employment), special paid leave (childcare, family nursing care, etc.), and work life balance holidays (up to 7 days depending on the month of employment).

    Overtime and other explanations : This position falls under the specialized duties discretionary work system; one working day will be calculated as 7 hours and 30 minutes.

    Bachelor

    ・Have work experience of semiconductor-related manufacturing in clean rooms.
    ・Familiar with at least one of vacuum processes such as dry etching, E-gun evaporation, and sputter deposition.
    ・Have experiences of using SEM.
    ・(favorably) Have experiences of using electron beam lithography systems.
    ・Have an ability to use PC for working.
    ・(favorably) Have experiences of computer programming and network management.
    ・Have knowledge of scientific field equivalent to graduation from science university.

Contract period

  • Nontenured - Non-tenure track

    1.A one-year fixed-term employment contract, renewable based on evaluation, to a maximum 7 years of employment.
    2.RIKEN may adjust the above maximum period of renewability based on a) the employee’s abilities, workload at the time of contract completion, performance and work attitude and b) the continuation of the employee’s center, laboratory or project and RIKEN’s management situation and budget at the time. In principle, employment contracts will not be renewed for individuals older than 70 years.
    3.When the Employee's research is scheduled to be reviewed in employee’s 4 year at RIKEN, and when it is concluded that there is reason* to believe it will be difficult for the research (or technology development) to be continued, the employment contract will not be renewed for 6 year. (*The reason may relate to the Employee's abilities, performance and/or work attitude.)

    Probationary period present

    In principle, the first two months of employment is considered a trial period. There is no change of working conditions.

    Pay increase system : Salary will be an annual salary based on experience, ability, and performance, and will consist of a base salary and a variable salary.
