Background of the recruitment and description of the project
Language Skills Courses (English)
Mainly teaching intermediate and upper-level classes* designed to improve students’ competency in output skills: Intermediate English (SW) 1a/1b**, Intermediate English (SW) 2a/2b, plus English Speaking a/b.
*As defined by the university, relative to our students’ skill levels
**SW = Speaking/Writing, a/b = 1st/2nd semester
Work content and job description
Classroom Instruction/ ‘Office Hour’/ Other
1) Teaching English classes for the General Education program (can be for various departments). The number of classes will vary (usually 8, or more when mutually agreed upon, with commensurate salary adjustment).
2) Holding one 90-min. office hour/prep hour per week for consultation with students and/or preparing for classes. The time and day will be decided, with prior consent, by the university and be scheduled on one of the three required teaching days per week (usual 15-week semester schedule).
3) Coordinating classes through consultation/collaboration with faculty in order to improve the English program of the university.
4) Extra duties may be requested as occasion demands.

Appropriate Qualifications and/or Relevant/Appropriate Experience:
1) Native or near-native speakers of English, or speakers with superior competency in English.
2) Degree in Language Education (Teaching English) and/or relevant/appropriate language teaching experience* at the university-level or equivalent.
*Experience in using communicative, task-based and meaning-focused methods, and techniques to engage learners with meaningful and comprehensible input for listening and reading. Also experience that assists learners in engaging in meaningful output for speaking and writing, and to improve fluency and accuracy.

Selection Process:Screening/Interview/Demo Lesson
After preliminary screening based on the submitted materials, shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview (to be conducted in both Japanese and English). They will also be asked to perform a short demonstration lesson, and submit a sample syllabus, for one of the classes to be assigned (course descriptions will be provided in advance).
