Job description

  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

    The National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) aims to contribute to the development and advancement of democratic governance in Japan and around the world through research and education in policy and policy innovation.
    The National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) seeks to hire an Assistant Professor(Non-tenure) who specializes in politics and/or international relations in emerging states.
    Candidates for this position should possess a Ph.D. in a relevant field (such as political science, international relations, or area studies) and a good record of publication.
    The successful candidate will be required to assist the Maritime Safety and Security Program where the students with professional careers in various maritime law enforcement agencies in the Indo-Pacific.

    ・Conduct research activities in the field of politics and/or international relations in emerging states.
    ・Engage the students to read academic journals, critically review them and organize their research papers.
    ・Assist academic paper writing in English.
    ・Make a substantial contribution to the various educational programs of the said program.

  • Education and Degree Requirements

    Ph.D. / Doctor

    Ph.D. in political science, international relations, area studies, or other related field.

  • Work experience

    Must have a publication record after obtaining a doctoral degree
    English proficiency to give lectures and assist in the teaching of dissertations in English
    Contribution to university administration (Japanese language ability is desirable but not required)
