Job description
Background of the recruitment and description of the project
The School of Global Humanities and Social Sciences (SGHSS) at Nagasaki University invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of full-time Coaching Fellow (CF) on a fixed-term contract The position of CF is a specifically appointed employee under the strategic scheme of university funding. The duties of a CF include providing English language support for students with a particular focus on contributing to English for Academic Purposes (EAP) curricula in an English-medium program (called the KEY Program within the SGHSS). Successful candidates should be able to contribute to activities (both inside and outside the classroom) by providing individualized study support for students and the integrated provision of program content across classes in cooperation with other faculty and KEY instructors. Experience helping students prepare for various kinds of English proficiency tests (such as IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, etc.) is preferred.
Work content and job description
[Job details]
(1)A workload equivalent to 8 “office hours” each day for 5 days a week where CFs will be asked to support KEY instructors and/or SGHSS students (by correcting homework, providing feedback, having study sessions with students, etc.) in the following classes:
-2 class periods for Reading & Writing /week,
-2 class periods for Listening & Speaking /week,
-2 class periods for Reading & Discussion /week,
-2 class periods of individual IELTS/TOEFL study support /week
(2)Arrange and supervise English Communication Corner (once a month);
(3)Supervise and monitor the frequency and progress of students’ reading graded readers in English;
(4)Provide intensive test preparation sessions for students during the summer, winter, and spring breaks and keep track of their progress in language test scores; and
(5)Supplementary work relating to the development of English teaching materials or tools for providing support for students’ language learning and proficiency test preparation.
(3) Other duties related to English education in the SGHSS at Nagasaki University.
(4) Proctoring for English language assessments (TOEFL ITP /4 times annually).
(5) Other duties deemed necessary by the university administration.

(1) Degree completion
*Applicants must have completed a bachelor of arts/science and/or master’s degree prior to the starting date of the position applied for.
(2) Teaching experience: Applicants should possess strong abilities and experience supporting students who learn English as a Foreign Language (EFL). Experience as an ALT in a high school or teaching TOEFL and IELTS tests at a high school or higher ed institution (including vocational universities, junior colleges and vocational colleges) is desirable.
(3) Other:
*Applicants should be energetic and proactive individuals who approach their assigned duties with enthusiasm and creativity.
*Applicants should have English language proficiency (minimum IELTS 6.5 or equivalent) to provide support for students in the KEY program, which uses English as a medium of instruction.
*Applicants must possess at least an adequate level of Japanese language proficiency to fulfill daily duties in the SGHSS at Nagasaki University.
