Job description

  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to the research and development of the project titled “Establishing a Research Foundation for Touch Sharing and Emotion Communication Beyond Time and Space," supported by the Kyushu University Reform Plan for Activation Program. Based on the candidate's experience and qualifications, the title of Research Assistant Professor may be granted.

Project Overview: “Establishing a Research Foundation for Touch Sharing and Emotion Communication Beyond Time and Space"

This reform plan aims to establish a research foundation for Touch Sharing and Emotion Communication Beyond Time and Space. An interdisciplinary research team will form the core of this study, based on haptic technology, focusing on digital touch to revolutionize remote communication. Current communication systems lack haptic information, presenting numerous challenges in conveying information to visually impaired individuals and in the transmission of non-verbal cues. Digital touch technology enables the remote conveyance of texture, touch, and emotions, offering solutions to these challenges. This research infrastructure is expected to contribute to alleviating loneliness, enhancing social welfare, and expanding human communication capabilities to a new dimension, thus having a profound impact on society as a whole.

  • Work content and job description

We welcome candidates with research experience in haptic technology or human-computer interaction and an interest in psychophysical experiments. Depending on the applicant's skills and interests, they will be involved in one or both of the following projects:

-Research on perception and sensory processing with a focus on skin and haptic sensations
-Research and development of haptic and interaction technologies

Specific responsibilities include: planning and designing experiments, programming, developing experimental devices, conducting experiments, data analysis, writing academic papers, and supervising students on related research topics.
