Background of the recruitment and description of the project
This is part of the projects supported by JST FOREST grant "Exploring active matter phases of dense bacterial populations" and JSPS KAKENHI grant "Spatiotemporal dynamics of passive/active liquid crystals governed by 3D topological defects: exploration and control".
Work content and job description
The project researcher will push forward a project on active glass and/or active nematic states of dense bacterial populations, by combination of such experimental techniques as microfluidic devices, optical tweezers, photoalignment of liquid crystal, etc. We also welcome proposals from the candidate.

Annual Salary : 4 million yen ~
Annual salary system will be applied, monthly gross salary about 360,000 JPY (to be determined based on academic background, work experience, etc.)

Saturdays, Sundays, Holidays, and the year-end and New Year holidays (December 29 to January 3)

Overtime and other explanations : Discretionary work system for professional work applies and working hours will be deemed as 7 hours and 45 minutes per day.

Description
Candidates are expected to have strong interests and motivations to carry out experiments on active matter phases of dense bacterial populations, in particular active glass and/or active nematic states. We aim to explore new emergent phenomena in such states, characterize their collective properties, and uncover the underlying physical principles. Experience of bacterial experiments, microfluidic devices, optical tweezers, image analysis, and/or active matter studies is appreciated but not mandatory.

The first contract will be ended on March 31, 2026
Your employment agreement may be renewed up to once and the renewed term cannot be extended beyond March 31, 2027. Renewal of the agreement will be determined by the following factors: progress of the assigned work, performance, work record, attitude, medical conditions, budget status, etc.
