Job description
Background of the recruitment and description of the project
This is an upper-division course and involves teaching one 90-minute class a week, in English, to a mixed class of Meiji Gakuin and overseas exchange students. We have many students who are extremely interested in Chinese affairs, including quite a few students from mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Some of them will likely attend this course, along with many Japanese students and a few with other nationalities. A willingness to challenge students' preconceptions and engage them in active learning will be highly desirable.
Work content and job description
The course can be offered either in the spring semester (April 2025 to July 2025) or fall semester (September 2025 to January, 2026), with a week-long winter break at the end of December. The semester, day and time-slot of the class is negotiable within the constraints of the overall timetable.
The salary will be about 25,000 to 30,000 yen per month (depending on experience and qualifications), and will be payable for six months, although teaching will only last about four months.

Ph.D. / Doctor
A PhD in a relevant field such as Economics or Chinese Studies is strongly preferred. Previous university-level teaching experience is preferred but not essential. (Well-advanced doctoral candidates will also be considered, provided the applicant has an MA/MS degree and three years of teaching experience.)

Transportation expenses : Travel expenses will be paid for a distance of up to 110 kilometers from the Yokohama campus in Totsuka. Please note that classes are scheduled to be held in person, not online, so there is no point applying if you live outside the Kantō district of Japan.
Measures for preventing passive smoking at the workplace
Smoking is prohibited throughout the campus except in two specified areas well away from the main teaching and research areas, so there is no risk of second-hand smoking to non-smokers.

However, please note that classes are scheduled to be held in person, not online, so there is no point applying unless you are sure to be living in the Kantō district of Japan during the semester in which you teach.
