Job description

  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

We are looking for a specially appointed assistant professor (research) to join the group of Prof. Reiko Oda at AIMR, Tohoku University. The group focuses on the transmission of chiral information from the molecular scale to the nano- and macroscale. Particularly, we are looking for a researcher who will work on a new concept of chiral hierarchical nanostructures with enantioselective recognition, separation, and deracemization capabilities to open new possibilities for developing unprecedented material systems with unique properties.

  • Work content and job description

The candidate should hold a PhD in Physical Chemistry (or any related field), with strong expertise in organic synthesis and/or physical/colloid chemistry. Responsibilities will include synthesizing chiral nanomaterials and performing UV, IR, CD, VCD, and CPL spectroscopies, as well as microscopy techniques (TEM, SEM, OM). The candidate should be highly motivated, and able to work independently with a strong work ethic. Proficiency in English is required, given the international scope of the project and our diverse team. This position is for 1.5 years and is based principally at Tohoku University, Advanced Institute for Materials Research, Sendai Japan. As the PI of the group is strongly tied to Bordeaux University in France, the project is also strongly international. Previous expertise in chirality and/or spectroscopy is advantageous but not essential.
