Job description

  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

    The Graduate School of International Resource Studies invites applications for faculty positions to promote English language education.

  • Work content and job description

    The duties for this position include:
    1. English education subjects: I-EAP (Intensive English for Academic Purposes); practical courses in debate, discussion, and presentation skills.
    2. The successful candidate will assist in coordinating the faculty’s English program.
    3. Familiarity with CALL and learner management software, especially MOODLE, is preferred.
    4. Teaching duties will amount to at least six 90-minute courses per semester, to be taught exclusively in English.
    5. Guiding and assisting students in academic matters, including advising students in connection with Resource Science Fieldwork Abroad, a mandatory four-week practical program.
    In combination with courses taken before departing and after returning to Akita, this program prepares students for an independent graduation research project that they undertake in the
    fourth and final year;
    6. Other university administrative duties, including entrance exam preparation and administration of various university committees, among other duties as required.
    7. Conduct academic research and apply for outside funding, such as Kakenhi.

    Preference is given to candidates with experience in program coordination or curriculum development.

    3. Native or near-native fluency in English.
    4. Have at least conversational Japanese ability if you are a foreign national..

Selection / Notification of result

  • Selection

    First screening: all application documents will be carefully reviewed.
    Second screening: the short-listed candidates will be asked to give an oral presentation and will be interviewed during the second screening (after mid-May 2025).
    The second screening is planned to be a face-to-face interview, for which the interviewee will cover travel expenses, however,
    an online interview via Zoom is acceptable.

  • Notification of result

    The schedule of the interview will be notified to the applicants. Travel expenses for the interview must be borne by the applicant.
