Job description
Background of the recruitment and description of the project
The Center for Integrated Data Science (CIDAS), a center of the Institute for Space-Earth Environmental Research (ISEE) at Nagoya University, was established with the aim of developing and maintaining a foundation for advanced research. CIDAS accomplishes this through the integrated analysis of various types of data and cutting-edge computer simulations, supporting ISEE’s role as a collaborative research.
Since fiscal year 2022, CIDAS has been working in collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (JAXA/ISAS) and the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan as a “Center for Heliospheric Science (CHS)”. This center focuses on the utilization of solar observation satellites “Hinode,” the geospace exploration satellite “Arase,” the Mercury exploration satellite “Mio,” and the high-sensitivity ultraviolet solar spectroscopic observation satellite SOLAR-C, to lead heliospheric system science throughout the 2020s. The CHS also provides a research infrastructure that enables the integrated analysis of different satellite data as well as data from ground-based observations and numerical simulations related to the heliospheric system science. In addition, the center aims to contribute to heliospheric system science by advancing space weather research, particularly for future manned lunar explorations, and by enhancing space weather forecasting.
Work content and job description
Immediately after hire): Based on the agreement of the collaborative research with the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, the hired individual will be expected to advance research in heliospheric system science and space weather forecasting in alignment with the objectives of the CHS. As well as organizing and promoting data that adds value to heliospheric system science, responsibilities include developing integrated analysis tools and databases and developing numerical modeling (e.g. data-driven simulation) related to the satellites “Hinode” and SOLAR-C. The candidate will actively contribute to the development of this research foundation.
(Scope of changes): Tasks specified by the Tokai National Higher Education and Research System.
