    Kyoto University has striven to develop the Hakubi Project to foster and support early-career researchers since 2009. The Hakubi Center is now accepting applications for positions as a researcher in the Global category with the aim of fostering future world-class researchers at Kyoto University.

    Annual Salary : 6 million yen ~ 9 million yen

    The amount of salary shall be calculated based on the experience and ability of each individual in accordance with the Kyoto Universityʼs payment Rules and Regulations.
    Please note that the salaries above are not guaranteed and actual offers may be lower in some cases.

Working hours

    Working hours :08:30-17:15

    Break time :12:00-13:00

    Holidays : Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, year-end and New Year holidays (December 29-January 3), the anniversary of the founding (June 18), Summer holidays.

    Overtime and other explanations : In principal, under the discretionary labour system for professional work (equivalent to 7 hours and 45 minutes per day). If an applicant's consent is not given, the discretionary labour system does not apply, and scheduled working hour is fixed at 8:30 to 17:15 (break 12:00-13:00).

  • Supplementary explanation of compensation

    - Successful applicants will be hired as program-specific faculty members (program-specific assistant professor, program-specific junior associate professor, or program-specific associate professor) on an annual salary basis as stipulated in the Kyoto University Rules of Employment for Fixed-Term Program-Specific Faculty Members and will be paid in accordance with the university's payment standards.

    - Research grants will range from 1 to 4 million yen per year depending on the nature of the research.

    - Those employed in this project will be awarded the title of`Kyoto University Hakubi Researcher' from the date of employment as proof that Kyoto University recognizes them as outstanding researchers who will lead the next generation of scholars.

Selection / Notification of result

  • Selection

    (First round of screening)
    The Kyoto University Hakubi Center Expert Committee, where a written review will be conducted, evaluates applicants' research achievements and plans and determines whether the applicant will be selected for an interview.
    (Second round of screening)
    The selection of candidates for employment will be conducted by the Hakuraku Council of the Hakubi Center, where interviews will be conducted, and candidates will be selected based on a comprehensive evaluation of their qualifications not only in terms of research but also as an individual equipped to lead the next generation of academics.
    (Third round of screening)
    The Kyoto University Hakubi Center Steering Committee will deliberate on the results of the interviews by the Hakuraku Council, etc., and decide who will be offered the positions.
