Job description
Background of the recruitment and description of the project
Okazaki Lab. at CEReS, Chiba University, Japan, has embarked on an exciting and ambitious program to constrain the climate projection uncertainty using unique information recorded in stable isotope ratios in hydrometeors and data assimilation technique. We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to tackle this topic with us. The position is funded by JSPS Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B) named "The New Horizons in Isotope Atmospheric and Hydrological Science Unveiled by the Next-Generation Geostationary Meteorological Satellite Himawari-10".
Work content and job description
The successful applicant will work on either or multiple of the following research topics:
- Development of an isotope-enabled cloud-resolving model
- Study on cloud processes using satellite and UAV observations of stable water isotopes
- Atmospheric model parameter estimation with stable water isotopes

Education and Degree Requirements
Ph.D. / Doctor
A Ph.D. in physical science with expertise in meteorology, climate, hydrology, or related field
Work experience
- Proficiency in high-level programming languages (e.g., FORTRAN, Matlab, Python)
- Experience in using atmospheric models and/or in field observations of stable isotope ratios in precipitation/water vapor is advantageous
- Demonstrated ability to disseminate results to the scientific community through peer-reviewed publications, conference/workshop presentations, etc.
- Good communication and teamwork skills while being proactive
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English or Japanese
