Work content and job description
1)A minimum of two lecture courses related to rural development in developing countries in English;
2)Seminar courses I and II (year-round) in English;
3)One lecture each for the common courses entitled “Introduction to International Development” and “Japan’s Development Experience,” taught in English;
4)A lecture either in English or Japanese for undergraduate students (“International Development Studies” or “International Studies”);
5)Research supervision for Master’s theses and doctoral dissertations;
6)Participation in the Overseas/Domestic Fieldwork Programs;
7)Administrative work for the graduate school and the university;
8) Other miscellaneous tasks required by the graduate school.

Salary and benefits will be determined as per the rules of the Tokai National Higher Education and Research System
Base annual salary is determined based on professional experience, job responsibilities, and other relevant factors.

Working hours :08:30-17:15
Break time :12:00-13:00
Holidays :
Saturdays, Sundays, Japanese National Holidays, and year-end holidays (from December 29 to January 3 every year)
We may require work on holidays due to make-up classes, entrance exams, etc.
Overtime and other explanations : The work discretionary labor system for professional work applies: The working hours are basically the same as those which apply to general employees for 7 hours and 45 minutes per day, with an 8:30 AM work start time and a 5:15 PM work finish time. However, the method of performing the work and the distribution of hours shall be left up to the discretion of the employee, and the employer shall not give specific directions.

Description
1) Background in social science research of rural areas in developing countries (including agricultural economics, rural economics, and rural development) with experience in field-based research;
2) Ph.D. in a related field or expected to possess it prior to start of the post;
3) Capacity and willingness to teach and supervise students in both English and Japanese (all graduate-level courses must be taught in English, an undergraduate lecture may be taught either in English or Japanese);
4) Teaching experience at the university level in a relevant field;
5) Command of Japanese sufficient to handle administrative work (no restriction on nationality);
6) Willingness to participate in and supervise the graduate school’s Overseas/Domestic Fieldwork Programs;
7) Ability to commute to Nagoya University campus once employed.

1) Primary selection: document review
2)Secondary selection: interview (either online or face-to-face) around July 2025. The interview includes a mock lecture in English.
