  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

    We are seeking to fill the position of Specially Appointed Assistant Professor (Full-time) (Tokunin-Jokyō in Japanese) to join the core team delivering the Human Sciences International Undergraduate Degree Program (IUDP).

  • Work content and job description

    The position involves teaching four courses per semester as well as contributing to the undergraduate dissertation-related seminars. One course equals teaching one 90-minutes class per week for 15 weeks. In addition, the position involves contributing to the running of the program, both administratively and also in terms of student supervision.

    1) As part of their teaching duties, the successful candidate should be able to teach several of the following courses:
    •Introduction to Sociology
    •Introduction to International Education
    •Qualitative Research Methods
    •Academic Writing
    •Sociology of Migration
    •Media Sociology
    •Seminar in Studies of Multicultural Societies

    *Additional courses will be assigned to the successful candidate based on their field of expertise and the needs of this program, for a total of 4 courses per semester. All courses are taught in English.
    *While the successful candidate’s work will be based in Suita Campus, some courses will be taught at the Toyonaka Campus.

    2) Administrative duties: The successful candidate will play an active role in running the program. Duties include participating in monthly faculty meetings, supporting the yearly student admission process, and serve on specific committees.

    3) Research activities: While this is not a research post, all professors working on this program are expected to actively engage in research activities related to the above academic areas.

Wages

  • Annual Salary : 5 million yen ~ 6 million yen

    Remuneration: 5,916,000 JPY per annum (monthly payments of one-twelfth of annual salary), on the basis of responsibilities assigned (described in “6. Job Description”) and depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Commuting allowance is provided. Please note that a housing allowance, dependent allowance, retirement allowance and bonus are included in the above-mentioned annual salary and will not be provided.

Qualifications

  • Education and Degree Requirements

    Ph.D. / Doctor

    A PhD in Human Sciences, Sociology, Education, Japan Studies, or a related field.

  • Work experience

    1) Experience of teaching higher education courses in English in the above specialized field(s).
    2) At least three publications in internationally recognized peer reviewed journals
    3) Ability to work competently and effectively in English and Japanese to support the running of the Program.
