OVERVIEW OF POSITION
Starting in January 2025, Temple University will broaden its presence in Japan through the establishment of a new satellite campus in Kyoto. Over the past three years, the Japan campus of Temple University (TUJ) has experienced unprecedented growth, including an 80% increase in its undergraduate student population. To take our next leap forward by securing more space for our growing student body, expanding our impact beyond Tokyo, and advancing our new initiatives, TUJ has partnered with Kyoto-based Seibo Jogakuin (Seibo). Founded over 100 years ago, Seibo operates campuses in Kyoto and Osaka that serve nursery school through high school students. Together, TUJ and Seibo will play a critical role in Kyoto by advancing international education, building bridges across cultures, and equipping Temple University students with the tools required to succeed in our interconnected world.
In connection with our new Kyoto operations, we seek an experienced, dynamic, service-oriented, and collaborative leader for the inaugural role of Temple University, Japan Campus - KYOTO Executive Director. The Executive Director will be expected to lead the administrative functions and spearhead local relationships at our new satellite campus in Kyoto. The Executive Director will play a pivotal role in establishing and managing the Kyoto campus, ensuring the delivery of top-quality academic experiences, fostering a vibrant educational environment, and helping strengthen TUJ’s presence in the Kansai region.
Reporting directly to the Dean with a dotted reporting line to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Executive Director role involves both helping the University successfully develop and roll out its Kyoto campus while facilitating a world-class academic experience.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Executive Director will be instrumental in developing Temple’s extension in Kyoto, driving growth in Kansai, advancing Temple’s reputation, and expanding TUJ’s influence through strategic partnerships in Kyoto and surrounding region. The Executive Director’s role may evolve based on student and University needs. Initially, it is envisioned that the role will include:
Management and Leadership. Working together with TUJ’s senior leaders, provide leadership for the overall administration and operations of the Kyoto campus. Implement and align campus policies with the broader TUJ mission and vision.
Administrative Oversight. Collaborate with TUJ’s central administration to implement and maintain standardized processes. Oversee the day-to-day administrative functions in Kyoto while ensuring the efficient operation of academic and support services. Help ensure that faculty and staff have the tools and resources needed to provide quality education.
Collaboration with Seibo Jogakuin. Work closely with TUJ’s partner, Seibo Jogakuin, to ensure smooth collaboration in terms of facilities and joint initiatives. Help oversee and manage the Kyoto facilities. Facilitate communication and cooperation between TUJ and Seibo Jogakuin leadership.
Relationship management. Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with other local stakeholders, including government entities, businesses, and educational institutions. Represent TUJ in the local community and engage in activities that enhance the University’ s reputation.
Student and Housing Services. Oversee student support services ensuring a positive and inclusive experience for all students who study in Kyoto. Collaborate with academic departments in Tokyo to serve students as well as address student needs and concerns. Help secure and oversee housing needs and requirements for students and visiting faculty.

Wages
Annual Salary : 12 million yen ~

Qualifications
Education and Degree Requirements
Ph.D. / Doctor / Master
Terminal degree and the ability to teach undergraduate courses.
Work experience
-Experience in a multi-cultural environment.
-Leadership and/or executive experience in higher education and/or public sector work environment.
-Expertise in academic program management and administration.
-Teaching and/or study experience at universities in the United States.
-Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with multiple constituents.
-Demonstrated technical skills using and presenting Microsoft Office Suite, collaboration, presentation systems, etc.

Academia Sinica, Taiwan, invites applications for the open position of Director of the Institute of Plant & Microbial Biology (IPMB). The initial appointment is for a period of three years (renewable for a second term), and will also carry the title of Research Fellow, or higher if applicable.
As the pre-eminent academic research institution in Taiwan, Academia Sinica is devoted to basic and applied research in life sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, and humanities and social sciences. IPMB currently consists of 23 laboratories, engaged in research leading to a better understanding of biological processes in both plants and microbes. The research of IPMB is organized into four major areas: 1) Chromosome, Genome, and Systems Biology, 2) Cell and Developmental Biology, 3) Plant-Environment Interactions, and 4) Plant and Environmental Microbiology. IPMB is well funded and equipped with modern research facilities managed by experienced research specialists. IPMB maintains a high research standard with a high-quality publication record.
