The newly established Bacterial Physiology Research Unit (PI: Atsushi Taguchi) in the Division of Microbiology and Immunology at the Center for Infectious Disease Education and Research (CiDER) at Osaka University is seeking a Specially Appointed Assistant Professor (full-time) in the fields of microbiology and/or biochemistry to join its team.
The successful candidate will conduct research aimed at clarifying the physiological roles of molecular factors involved in key biological processes in pathogenic bacteria (e.g., Streptococcus pneumoniae cell surface synthesis pathway) using multidisciplinary approaches, including bacterial genetics, biochemistry, and structural biology. We are particularly interested in understanding the functions of poorly characterized membrane proteins that are crucial for bacterial survival and fitness, and we welcome candidates with experience in membrane protein biochemistry. The fundamental knowledge gained from these approaches will be leveraged to develop novel therapeutic strategies against bacterial infections caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
