Job description
Background of the recruitment and description of the project
A Research Technician position is available in the Macroevolution Unit at OIST. We are looking for a quick-learning and detail oriented research technician with diving experience and an interest in fish biodiversity. The Technician will assist with planning (and undertaking) diving and other fieldwork, caring for live fish, and other ichthyological research needs in the Unit. Non-diving skills, such as specimen preparation, dissection, and basic fish husbandry, can be learned through on the job training.
Work content and job description
1.Assistance with planning and undertaking diving and other marine fieldwork.
2.Assistance with locating, obtaining, and processing fish specimens from around Okinawa.
3.Assistance with fish husbandry in the Unit, including arranging for materials, caring for animals, and assisting with experiments.
4.Assistance with other projects within the applicants’ expertise as needed.
5.Keeping up-to-date on methods and skills required for the above.

2.Japanese Diving License
3.Willingness to Learn New Skills in Fish Biology
4.Interest in Fish Biodiversity
(Preferred)
1.Experience in Live Fish Care (either hobby or professional)
2.Familiarity with Fish Biology
3.Japanese language skills
4.MS or higher graduate degree

Full-time, fixed-term appointment for 1 or 2 years depending on experience. This contract may be renewed.
