Background of the recruitment and description of the project
Research Institute for Electronic Science (RIES), Hokkaido University, is recruiting a full professor as follows. This is an open recruitment based on the spirit of the “Hokkaido University’s statement on the promotion of Diversity & Inclusion.”
RIES comprises three research divisions (Optical Science, Materials Science, and Life Science), two research centers (a Green Nanotechnology Research Center and a Research Center of Mathematics for Social Creativity), a collaborative research division, and co-creation research support. We aim to develop interdisciplinary science that integrates optical science, materials science, life science, and mathematics.

Contents of the research field:
Science and engineering fields related to life and contribute to the development of science in the complex fields
of optics, materials, life, mathematics, and information, which are promoted by the RIES. The Professor will
pioneer cutting-edge technologies or conduct research incorporating cutting-edge technologies.
The Professor will broadly engage in joint research with researchers in the RIES, Hokkaido University, the
Crossover Alliance1), and collaborators in the Network Joint Research Center for Materials and Devices2), as
well as in international joint research.

Job content:
(Immediately after hiring) The selected candidate will work for the research described in 4. Contents of the
research field at the Research Institute for Electronic Science, and will be in charge of educating graduate
students in the Division of Life Science in the Graduate School of Life Science.
