  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

  • Work content and job description

    The Scientific Computing and Data Analysis (SCDA) section, under the Research Support Division (RSD), promotes the effective use of High-Performance Computing (HPC) in OIST research environment. The SCDA manages OIST scientific computing resources and services to support computationally intensive research studies, ranging from bioinformatics to computational physics.
    The HPC Web engineer will contribute to enhancing the usage and support of OIST’s HPC and scientific computing services. Under the direction of the SCDA Leader, the section member will be involved in the design, development, and maintenance of software and tools for OIST computing resources and services, as well as general systems administration and programming tasks.

Qualifications

  • Official qualification in specific field, etc.

    Design, implement, and maintain software tools to assist end users and administrators of research computer systems
    Design, develop, and maintain software tools for monitoring, management, and administration, as well as support the SCDA team in its daily operations.
    Manage, debug, and maintain software and operating systems, apply revision updates, and respond to security updates
    Create and maintain documentation related to systems (installation, configuration, etc.) and software (design, maintenance, user guides, etc.)
    Seek out new technologies and technical developments to meet expanding analytical and technical requirements
    Share information openly and discreetly, contributing to a team culture of trust and transparency
    Perform other related duties as directed or requested by the section leader

  • Description

    [Qualifications]
    (Required)
    -Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or other related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
    -At least one year of software or web portal development experience
    -Familiarity with current web technologies.
    -Familiarity with version control tools such as Git (recommended), SVN, CVS, etc.
    -Ability to read and write technical documents in English
    -Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written, in Japanese or English
    -Ability to build good working relationships with team members
    -Ability to identify and solve problems
    -Ability to learn and apply new concepts, methods, and practices.
    (Preferred )
    -Experience developing low-level software (libraries, device drivers, etc.) to control devices.
    -Knowledge and experience with networks and network protocols.
