Recruitment for a researcher 【Nuclear Science and Engineering Center】

D123090678

National research institute / Independent administrative institute

Japan Atomic Energy Agency

Research field : Frontier Technology - Unspecified | Nanotechnology/Materials - Unspecified | Natural Science - Experimental studies related to particle-, nuclear-, cosmic ray and astro-physics

Researcher/Postdoc level : Regular employee - Tenured - Non-tenure track - Probationary period present

Job description

  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

To reduce the volume and radiotoxicity of high-level radioactive waste, Nuclear Science and Engineering Center has been conducting research and development on partitioning minor actinides from high-level liquid waste for transmutation to short-lived nuclides by accelerator driven system.

  • Work content and job description

High-level liquid waste consists of various types of elements, and some metal elements such as rare earths are difficult to separate from minor actinides because of their similarity in chemical properties. In this research theme, separation experiments to reveal separation properties of target elements are carried out using nuclear materials and radioactive isotopes in fume hoods, glove boxes, and a hot cell. Also, development of practical hydrometallurgical processes to separate target elements and evaluation of the separation performance using simulation codes are conducted.
Applicants are required to have expert knowledge in solution chemistry and analytical chemistry, and skill to use nuclear materials and/or radioactive isotopes. English ability is necessary to publish research results in peer-reviewed international journals and to present at international conferences.
