Background of the recruitment and description of the project
JICA conducts JICA Development Study Program (JICA-DSP) in collaboration with universities in Japan. In the program, JICA invites future leaders from partner countries to Japan for the master's degree course, and JICA offers them the opportunity to learn about Japan's development experiences. After the participants finish the program, they are expected to reinvest the knowledge they learned in Japan in their countries.

Work content and job description
The JICA-DSP team in the JICA Ogata Sadako Research Institute for Peace and Development (JICA Ogata Research Institute) is conducting research on Japan's development experience/development cooperation, in addition to the support for the JICA-DSP in universities. The researcher in this post is expected to conduct the following activities.
[Field]: Japan's development experience/development cooperation.
[Activities]
(1) Develop research proposals and plans (literature review, discussions on the research topic, etc.).
(2) Implementation of new research or participation in the ongoing research as a joint researcher (data collection and analysis, writing a paper, discussions with different researchers, etc.).
(3) Dissemination of the progress and outputs of research (presentation at academic conferences, publication of papers, etc.).
(4) Organization of lectures and webinars on Japan's development experience/development cooperation for the universities that participate in the JICA-DSP.
(5) Supporting the development of support materials for the JICA-DSP.
(6) Other related works to the items above (1) to (5).
When necessary, the researcher in this post goes on a business trip in Japan or abroad.

Description
1. Required qualifications include:
(1) Doctoral degree, doctoral candidate, or equivalent or higher knowledge/experience in the above-mentioned fields
(2) Excellent research performance in Japan's development experiences or its development cooperation
(3) Experiences in writing academic papers and presentations on the above-mentioned fields in English; and, excellent communication skills for international research collaboration
(4) Strong motivation for active engagement in the research agenda of JICA Ogata Research Institute, and for working with other JICA Ogata Research Institute research fellows in conducting interdisciplinary research activities
(5) Japanese language proficiency (daily conversation level) is preferred.
(6) English language skills sufficient for performing the tasks.
2. This position is open to all nationalities. Applicants of foreign nationalities are required to have appropriate visa/permission to work in Japan, or have the prospect for obtaining by himself/herself such visa/permission without a problem.

When the applicant submits the recommendation letters to JICA, each original recommendation letter prepared by each recommender should be sealed and sent to the designated mailing address described in “Where to make contact”. Furthermore, “Application for Research Fellow (JICA-DSP) (recommendation letters)" should be articulated on the envelope.)
