Job description
Background of the recruitment and description of the project
The OIST Core Facilities contribute to research and education by providing excellent common research facilities and research support services for the researchers and students at OIST The Engineering Section is one of the eight technical sections within the core facilities. It provides support for mechanical engineering, electronics, nanofabrication, and materials characterization through three teams of technical staff.
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Electronics Research Support Specialist to support electronics engineering within the university. The candidates’ principle duties will be to design and build custom circuits as required by OIST researchers, and to train and assist OIST researchers in the use of the section’s resources for electronic engineering. Additionally, the position is to assist in the management of electronics support within the section.
Work content and job description
Responsibilities:
1. Provides support services related to electronic/electrical engineering
2. Provides users with appropriate training on electronic circuit fabrication and testing
3. Provides consultations with researchers on circuit design and fabrication, as well as circuit simulation including digital and analog circuits in low and high-frequency.
4. Fabrication and testing of custom circuits
5. Assist with data acquisition, processing and analysis.
6. Creation of standard training programs, manuals and protocols for the efficient training and use of the instruments
7. Maintenance of all relevant equipment and facilities
8. Work with equipment vendors on maintenance, development and trouble-shooting issues
9. Maintenance of stocks of consumables and chemicals
10. Supports the purchase and procurement of equipment based on the needs of researchers, by documenting the specifications of the equipment and by communicating with the manufacturers and vendors, etc.
11. Maintenance of excellent records regarding research support, equipment maintenance and safety
12. Maintains and expands collaborative relationships with other domestic and international institutes
13. Other duties as assigned by the Engineering Section Leader

Education and Degree Requirements
Master
・ Master’s degree or higher in electronic or electrical engineering, or a closely related field
Work experience
・ Experience in analog (LF/HF) and digital circuit design
・ Experience in circuit fabrication and testing
・ Experience in cryogenic and vacuum systems and circuits
・ Experience in circuit simulation and EM simulation
・ Experience in troubleshooting, calibrating and testing electronic equipment
・ Experience in embedded circuits and systems
・ Proficient in the use of programming languages such as Python or MATLAB
・ Experience in training and mentoring others
・ Excellent communication skills in English. Ability to communicate in Japanese is desirable, but not required
・ Ability to work as part of a team
・ Strong problem-solving skills
・ Ability to adapt to local culture and rapidly changing work environment
