Job description

  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

    The Department of Cultural Sciences, Faculty of Education and Integrated Arts and Sciences at Waseda University is seeking a faculty member in Interdisciplinary Cultural Sciences in German Speaking Areas (incl. teaching German) at the rank of full-time Professor with tenure, or Associate Professor (with tenure/tenure-track) or Lecturer (with tenure/tenure-track).

  • Work content and job description

    - The successful candidate will teach classes for German (e.g. German(Basis), Teaching Methods in German Language, On-Site Training in German, German(Aspects of Culture) etc.), give lectures and seminars associated with the field of the candidate's expertise.
    - The successful candidate will be required to fulfill administrative duties as required by the Department and Faculty, in addition to research and teaching.

    In Waseda University, we strictly separate smoking and non-smoking areas. All areas other than the specified smoking areas, including outdoors/classrooms/lounges, are non-smoking.

  • Supplementary explanation of compensation

    1. Duty Hours:
    Regular working days and working hours (start and end times, rest periods) shall follow in accordance with Waseda University regulations.
    Based on the discretionary labor system for professional work, working hours are deemed eight hours a day, and decisions on the means of performing work duties and time allocation for research will, due to the nature of research work, be left to the discretion of the individual.
    2. Salary, allowances, and commuting expenses:
    As prescribed in the Waseda University regulations.
    3.Holidays:
    These are Saturdays, Sundays, year-end and New Year holidays, national holidays, compensatory holidays when classes are held on some national holidays, and the Anniversary of the University Founding. However, this excludes days on which the university has determined in advance that classes will be held.
    4. Leave
    Leave as stipulated by the Labor Standards Act and other relevant laws and regulations, and days specifically designated by the university.
    5. Social insurance
    Employees will be enrolled in Employees' Pension Insurance, Health Insurance, Workers' Compensation Insurance, and Employment Insurance.
    6. Severance/Retirement Benefits
    If hired as tenured faculty: To be paid in accordance with the Waseda University's regulations.
    If hired as tenure-track faculty: Not paid. However, if the individual concerned is subsequently hired as a tenured faculty member, the period of employment on which the basis of the retirement allowance for tenured faculty members is calculated shall be counted from their date of appointment as a tenure-track faculty member before the change of status.
