Job description

  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

    The School of Policy Studies English Language Program (SPS-ELP) at Kwansei Gakuin University, Kobe-Sanda Campus is currently hiring for part-time teaching positions for the Fall 2024 semester, contract beginning September 20, 2024. Each position involves teaching three 100-minute classes, including one academic writing course, one day per week (Tuesday – Friday, 9:00am – 3:10pm).

    The ELP is a two-year (4-semester), English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program. All courses are developed in-house and are closely coordinated, which means that materials, lesson plans, and assessment tools are the same for all teachers and students.

Wages

  • Hourly wage : 14500 yen ~ 14600 yen

    Salaries are paid monthly for carrying out the duties stipulated in Article 3 Paragraphs 1-3 of the regulations concerning the duties of part-time instructors at Kwansei Gakuin University.
    The monthly payment will be calculated by multiplying 14500 yen (14600 yen for emeritus professors and those of equivalent standing) by the number of class hours per week as notified in the Teaching Schedule Table. Note that each 100-minute class is considered to be 2 teaching hours and is paid at rates of 29,000 yen or 29,200 yen.
    In addition, public transportation expenses are reimbursed in full and an additional 1,000 yen per teaching day is provided when classes are taught on campus.

    Ph.D. / Doctor / Master / Bachelor

  • Description

    The ideal part-time instructor candidate would have:
    •experience and interest in teaching academic English, especially academic writing
    •interest in teaching within a coordinated program
    •university-level English language teaching experience
    •an MA degree, preferably in a related field (e.g. TESOL, Applied Linguistics)

    Contract renewal is dependent on position availability and is based on mutual agreement.
    (Spring Semester April 1 - September 10; Fall Semester September 20 – March 31).
    University part-time lecturers cannot be employed beyond the end of the year when they reach the age of 70.
