Job description

  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

    The Institute for Space-Earth Environmental Research (ISEE)*1, Nagoya University, conducts studies to elucidate the mechanisms and interactions of various phenomena in the holistic Earth, Sun, and Universe system. The mission of ISEE is to contribute to solutions for global environmental problems facing humankind and to the progress of human society spreading into space through the integration of space science and earth science. ISEE plays a unique role in linking these disciplines as one of Japan's Joint Usage / Research Centers*2 and promotes a wide variety of collaborative research. To realize this mission, ISEE has organized seven research divisions, three research centers, and Office for the Development of Interdisciplinary Research Strategy. The Division for Heliospheric Research*3 conducts solar wind research by observing interplanetary scintillation (IPS) using multi-point large radio telescopes which are joint-use facilities.

  • Work content and job description

    (Immediately after being hired):
    The successful candidate for this position will develop observational research on the formation and acceleration of the solar wind and coronal mass ejections (CMEs), the structure and dynamics of the heliosphere, space weather forecasts, and other subjects on the heliosphere with an international perspective, as well as promote the development of new observation instrument for heliospheric research, as the head of the Division for Heliosphere Research. In addition, we expect the candidate to be actively involved in education as a member of the Graduate School of Science, Nagoya University, and to work for joint research with domestic and international researchers, fully understanding the ISEE's mission as a Joint Usage / Research Center.

  • Description

    There is no restriction on the candidate’s nationality. However, the candidate is required to have the minimum necessary English language skills to make lecture in English. The candidate is also required to have the minimum necessary Japanese language skills to handle administrative work and is required to have prospects for acquiring sufficient Japanese language skills within a few years.
